Robert James, president and CEO of Carver Financial Corp., brings extensive experience in banking, law, and real estate. Over a 15-year tenure, he has led the bank to multiple achievements, including securing federal New Markets Tax Credits, deploying more than $60 million in awards, doubling the bank’s tier one capital, and winning over $10 million in CDFI Fund awards.

James also created and leads Carver’s affiliated nonprofit CDFI, Catalyst Development Corp. As chairman of the National Bankers Association since 2020, he tripled the organization’s assets and revenue, attracted more than $150 million in new capital to Black banks, and launched the association’s new charitable nonprofit affiliate. Previously, he was a partner at Golden Holley James LLP, closing more than $25 billion in public finance transactions.
